It is so fitting to write a letter to you because of this being the Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday! He had a beautiful and great dream of equality. His dream is slowly coming into fruition. Although we have a ways to go for it be fully realized.
Oh dear dreams, often you are constant and other times you may change…but one thing is certain…I am striving to achieve you. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by how to do this, I remember Langston Hughes’ “Dream Deferred:
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
There is no way that I can let that happen. Your existence makes my life purposeful! Thank you for being a part of me…
